6 October - 8 October 2013 – Perth including Mandurah, Rockingham, Hillarys, Cottesloe Beach, Mosman Park and Fremantle Port

We planned at Sami’s birthday dinner to spend the day with the rest of the Scheffer family today.  We started out by heading to Mandurah and walking around the shops a while.  Next we went to the Mandurah foreshore and checked out the markets.  Uncle Rob was well prepared by bringing some bread to feed to the local pelican.  Sami went to look at a little jewellery stall on her own and in the process got talking to the lady that owned the store and explained how it was her birthday yesterday and chatting about travelling around Australia.  It just so happened that this woman had also travelled the country with her family when she was young.  The woman was kind enough to give Sami a little pair of butterfly earrings – I was proud of Sami for having the courage to have this conversation on her own.  We walked around some more taking some photos along the way and heading across a bridge to another market area.  We were all soon hungry so headed to Cicerellos Restaurant for lunch and again the food was really good and we all left with full bellies!  We left Mandurah and went back to Rockingham along the foreshore.  Josh had a footy in the car so we had a kick around in the park, even Jiraporn with her fluorescent yellow platform shoes – I can’t believe she can run in them!  After a quick ice-cream we all jumped back in our cars and headed for home – the NRL grand final between the Sea Eagles and Roosters was on and Josh didn’t want to miss it!  Back at David’s we watched the game – thankfully the Roosters winning 26 – 18.  Another year of rugby league over!

A new week rolled around and David obviously had to go to work.  We on the other hand, had the car booked in for a service in the north of Perth so left late in the morning to miss the traffic and headed towards the Toyota dealership.  We dropped our car in and fortunately were given a car to get around in for the day.  Upon swapping cars we ventured off in the direction of Perth to check out the coast.  We first went to Hillarys and wandered around the marina and shops.  Unfortunately for the kids, we didn’t bring swimmers (due to it being a little on the cool side) so they missed out on the kids water amusement area.  After a bit of lunch we ventured further south and stopped to have a quick look at Sorento, Scarborough, City Beach and of course the famous Cottesloe Beach.  We then drove about in Mosman Park, choosing out our favourite homes – it’s nice to dream!  We then drove through North Fremantle and explained the shipping movements of the containers to the kids, amazed at the sizes of the boats and how many containers were actually on each boat.  We were told that our car was going to take longer than expected so had to wait until tomorrow to pick it up – so we headed home for the evening.  We had a lovely lasagne and salad for dinner and I’m sure David appreciated not having to cook dinner for himself for a few nights.

We hung about “home” today, the kids appreciating that they could rule the tv and watch some cartoons this morning.  I got lots of washing done up to around lunch time when Josh went to pick up our car.  In the meantime, I had him drop us three girls off at the local shopping centre and we went in search of a hairdresser.  I had my hair coloured and the girls got pampered by having their hair washed and trimmed too.  We had time to kill while Josh was picking up the car so afterwards walked about the shops doing some more window shopping until Josh returned.  We hung about when Josh arrived and had some afternoon tea together, of course Zoe had fried rice and Sami had hot chips – who would have guessed?  We grabbed some groceries, running into Jiraporn on our way out.  Again we went home for a lovely hot meal and this time we sat up and watched a movie together.  David enjoyed a bit of a Barbie movie with the girls and once that finished we used his 3D TV to watch Oz the Great and Powerful.
