5 March 2013 – Gladstone

Tuesday morning and another tour, this time out to the world’s fourth largest coal terminal which is located in Gladstone, RG Tanna Coal Terminal.  We were picked up from the information centre and given a quick tour around the town of Gladstone before going into the coal terminal.  It was huge!  The guide explained that the coal comes from many sites and is then stored in its own stockpile area.  Quite often the coal that is exported is not from the one company but instead a mix, depending on what the customer is after.  The actual size of ships that the coal is loaded onto is also fascinating.  We learnt about the different sizes of the ships and what they are called, even the kids were listening.  Once the tour was over we started to head back to the caravan park.  Josh dropped me off at the shops so I could get my hair coloured and then he and the kids continued on back to the caravan park to get some school work done.  A couple of hours later they picked me up from the shopping centre and we all walked back to the caravan park.  It was lovely to get back out for another walk while it wasn’t raining.  I then got some washing done and continued with the school work as we had an exciting couple of days planned from tomorrow.
