Upon leaving Port Vincent we
aimed to move away from the coast for a while as we’d had enough of the
wind. We kept on north, heading towards
the top of the Gulf St Vincent, all the while admiring the wheat covered
landscape and old run-down farm buildings.
We pulled up at the town of Clare around lunch time and booked in to a
van park with a pool – and surprisingly the kids actually went for a swim in it
late this afternoon (obviously just because they were missing the swimming, not
due to the heat). We went to the local
information centre, grabbed our maps and got the local information. The first stop we made was to the Spring
Gully Conservation Park and lookout. It
was very quiet and a lovely view over the valley. We drove around the backstreets of Clare and
admired all the vines, gorgeously lined in their rows, but didn’t actually pull
into any of them for taste-testing due to a lack of wine tasters in this little
family of ours. Instead we drove into
town and wandered around, buying Zoe yet another pair of thongs (not sure how
many that is now for the trip) and checking out some local sporting and book
shops. It was quite a cute town, not all
that big with one main street of shops and a major grocery store in a
sidestreet. Back at the caravan, the
kids had fun in the pool and on the jumping pillow while I enjoyed a little bit
of sunshine and a glass or two of wine.
