3 August – 5 August 2013 – Last days in Broome

D-day for Dad – time for him to fly home as his holiday had come to an end.  This morning the kids were sitting down to a bit of school work so but Josh ran Dad into town to the markets for a stroll around.  Not long afterwards Josh had come back and we all jumped in and met dad strolling around in the markets.  It was another beautiful day to just hang out.  We went for a drive towards the northern end of Cable Beach and had a wander around and the kids played at the park for a while we people watched.  In the end it was time to get back to the caravan so Dad could freshen up, grab his bags and head to the airport.  We farewelled Dad with big hugs as we were unlikely to see him again until we returned to Sydney.  Afterwards we went to the only single level shopping centre in Broome where there is a Woollies, Target and many other retailers.  The kids were excited to see some “real” shops again and spent some of their money while we were here.
The next day was another painful day of catch-up school work.  It was very frustrating and boring but I guess one of those things that we just can’t avoid.  Later in the afternoon, we went to The Mangrove to meet up with Venitah and watch Phil do a gig with another guy.  The girls received the most lovely gift from Venitah and Phil today too, they had bought them each a pair of lovely pearl earrings to remember them and Broome by.  We spent all afternoon having a few drinks in the sun with great company.  Some of their friends were also there with three little boys so it also gave the kids someone to run around in the sun with.  I also have to give Josh a mention as he was teaching the eldest of the three boys how to hold his toe, and with the opposite leg, jump through and land back on the same leg – and he can still do it.  Amazing!  Even the little lad gave it a go and nearly succeeded.
Monday rolled around and I actually went to the hairdresser’s.  The last time I had my hair done was in Gladstone, Qld, around the first week of March so it felt great.  It would have been an even better morning if my handycard hadn’t been swallowed up by the ATM and I had money for a coffee while being pampered.  Afterwards, I went and did the groceries and met Josh and the kids in there.  Back at the van Josh had previously been doing some school work, so when we returned I decided that they should continue to get a little bit more done.  Late this afternoon, we had Venitah and Phil, and Andrew, Kylie and their kids over for dinner.  The kids watched a movie in the van while us adults chatted outside in the cool air.  It was so lovely!  After Andrew & Kylie returned to their van late in the evening, Phil and Venitah experienced the cosiness of our van for a little bit.  It was a little sad as this would be the last time we would see them on our trip.  We will most definitely keep in touch and one day return to visit them again.
