25 January 2013 – Tamworth Country Music Festival

Another lazy start to the morning!  I played hairdresser this morning giving both the kids a hair cut as well as trimming Josh’s hair.  We packed some rolls for lunch and hit the road bound for Lake Keepit.  If I remember right, I went on a school camp to Lake Keepit in year 5 or 6 (if any school friends read this, please correct me if I’m wrong) and we got to do a bit of canoeing and abseiling.  There wasn’t really much there apart from the lake, a lovely caravan park, a few boat ramps and a nice (but small) water play area for the kids.  It kept them amused for a while but we didn’t stay long.  We ended up heading back into town for a few hours and back to the Post Office Hotel as Chris E Thomas had a daytime gig on.  We stayed there for quite a while, sitting front row just on the pub floor watching them sing and they really wowed us!!  Before too long we had to head off as the Star Maker finals were on.  It was a hot and muggy night so there was no dressing up for this concert… shorts and t-shirt were it (not that we have much else in our tiny cupboards to choose from).  We made our way to Toyota’s VIP area and took our seats and not far into it, our good friends Mark and Erica and their boys joined us along with further friends Trevor and Helen and their kids.  The Star Maker for 2013 was finally announced (Kaylee Bell) after all the performances and the following big concert was about to start.  We had some great acts perform including O’Shea, The Wolfe Brothers, The McClymonts and then the main act of Lee Kernaghan.  They were all brilliant.  Lee sang a song with his sister Tania which was outstanding, but then also brought in a 13 year old busker from the streets who played the banjo.  She was just awesome but I unfortunately can’t remember her name at the moment.  I’m sure she will pop up again at Tamworth festivals and most likely become pretty well known in the country music industry.  I bet that young girl can’t wait to get back to school to tell her friends about her school holiday experience!!
