So, you know all those wet weather reports that you’ve been
hearing about throughout Queensland and New South Wales? Well they wet weather has also hit
Tamworth. The weather was miserable all
day Monday so we had our usual sleep in, and then got stuck into school
work. We had just started and Josh
stepped out for lunch with friends so I tried to kick on with a bit of school maths
work with the kids – oh what fun!
Fortunately, Josh wasn’t gone long so he came back and gave the kids a
swift kick to push them along. All in
all, it was a pretty uneventful day really.
The Tuesday was much the same. Admittedly we started the school work a
little earlier in the day but it was a really torturous day. Zoe didn’t want to record her news onto the
computer because it wasn’t going to be up to her high standard, so the
crocodile tears started and the self doubt kicked in. Eventually, after quite a bit of consoling,
she managed to spit something out and record it – ready to send back to her
teacher. Sure it wasn’t great, but at
least it was done. Sami too was getting
a bit over her school work – this time with math’s. She can answer ten math’s questions right in
a row, but then give her a ten second break and ask her the same question
again, and she will have no idea! What
is going on there??? Anyway, we went for
a drive this afternoon to the Tamworth Lookout and then to got some groceries just
to break up the day and then came back to school work. Boredom set in again, so we played a few
games of “44 Homes” and then continued on for a wee while until we finished up
for the day.
Wednesday we were due to check out of Tamworth (which is
also why we started the school work early).
Everything was dried up and packed away by 10am and we hit the bitumen
once more. We made tracks north until
noon where we stopped at Guyra. The kids
had been watching movies in the back of the car up until this point and
thankfully we found a great park which had a big flying fox and massive
climbing gym to amuse the kids. We
arranged lunch while the kids ran amok and by this stage quite a few others had
stopped at the park to join us with their own lunch. I think we spent about an hour chatting
before we headed back to the car to continue on the journey. We drove on through many roadworks, and passed
through Glen Innes and Deepwater before finding somewhere to stop for the night. We are currently about 11km south of
Tenterfield at a place called Bluff Rock Rest Area (yay, free accommodation)
and the rest area is pretty full. We
have gotten the kids to do a small amount of school work (even though they’ve
been at it for hours – their concentration is appalling) and we’ve had a chat
to a few of the other campers staying here for the night. Some of the folk have set up a camp fire
nearby so Josh and I will shortly be putting the kids to bed and heading over
for more chat time…. we are loving our road trip!
