Scone to Walcha
The lovely Erica made lots of lovely fluffy pancakes this
morning for breakfast and I’ve never seen the kids eat so many. Home-made ones are obviously better than the
shaker bottles. After scoffing those
down, they tried waking Andrew and Luke so they could all go swimming before we
headed off. We packed up and drove on intending
to go to Apsley Falls for the night but upon phoning the national park they
advised us that the national park was closed due to the heatwave and fires. We ended up stopping at Walcha, booked into
the local caravan park and went for a walk into town. Upon passing the local swimming pools, of
course the “Zoe police” noticed that there was a boy not only riding his bike
with a broken arm but further to her dismay, he had no helmet…. typical
Zoe! There were lots of arty wooden
objects around town such as a totem pole of naked people, a small train in the
center of town, what looked like a crocodile tail footbridge and many fancy
seats to rest on. The Apsley River was
looking very dry with only a trickle of water, definitely not worth pulling on
your swimmers. We bought a few
essentials as well as some meat from the local butcher which was absolutely
delicious. After Sami had done the
washing up in the caravan park’s camp kitchen, we settled in for a family night
watching an Indiana Jones movie.
