We had another full day planned. We drove to the Cairns Skyrail and dethe
Caravonica Terminal bound for beauty. We
walked the board walk at the Red Peak Station and did a quick 30 minute tour
before jumping back on board the next section of Skyrail and past the Barron
Falls. At the Barron Falls Station we
walked through more of the rainforest and to another viewing platform off to
the Barron Falls. Then we headed into
the interpretive centre for a quick overview.
As we went to get on the last leg of the Skyrail, Zoe, Sami and Dad
hopped into the cablecar and Josh told the woman to shut the door – the kids
looked a bit puzzled. We’d sent them
along the next leg just with Dad while we enjoyed the peace and quiet by
following behind them in a separate car.
We crossed over the Barron River and finally reached our destination of
Kuranda. The sun was turning it on for
us and we were happy to stroll around the shops and markets of the town. After a bite to eat we headed for the Kuranda
Butterfly Sanctuary (even though we had done this last time). They are so graceful and there are so many of
them in bright stunning colours and there is also so much to learn within the
aviary and laboratory. We needed a break
from all this walking around so found a café and had afternoon tea before
heading to the Kuranda Railway Station.
We went on to board this glorious old train and start to make our decent
back down the mountain. The carriage was
pretty full and our first stop was at a viewing platform which looked across to
the Barron Falls. After a few happy
snaps here we boarded again and headed past some stunning views and
waterfalls. The train arches around the
track so far that you can actually view the entire length and it’s lovely,
especially with the view behind. After
reaching the bottom we disembarked and found our transfer to get back to the
Skyrail where we left our car. It was a
great day out – once again…
